A reckless driver that clocked 120 mph pushed another vehicle onto a railroad track in California over the weekend, and told troopers it was because he was “late for work.”

The California Highway Patrol Redwood City field office said officers over the weekend clocked a red Ford Mustang traveling at 120 mph and using the shoulder to pass traffic, prompting a pursuit.

The Mustang driver allegedly tried to evade officers, exiting the freeway onto city streets and re-entering the freeway “a few times.” CHP said officers called off the pursuit “because the risk to the safety of the public was too great.”

The driver allegedly got back onto the freeway and resumed driving recklessly, before taking an exit at “too high a speed” and losing control of the vehicle. The Mustang driver struck another vehicle, “pushing them both onto an active railroad,” CHP said.

A photo shared by CHP shows both damaged cars at a rest on the railroad track. The victim driver sustained minor injuries, and the driver of the Mustang was arrested.

CHP said that when asked why he was “driving recklessly and evading officers,” the driver allegedly said that he was “running late for work.”
