A Georgia man who allegedly fled a traffic stop, went airborne over railroad tracks and crashed into a church on Saturday is facing several felony charges, authorities said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 15 in Tennille on Saturday, and the driver initially pulled into a Dollar General parking lot but instead of stopping, re-entered Highway 15 northbound.

A pursuit ensued, and the driver allegedly went airborne over railroad tracks on Highway 15. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and drove across the front lawn of Tennille Baptist Church before crashing into the building.

The sheriff’s office said the church building sustained “significant damage.”

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Kentavian Washington, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license, and felony fleeing and attempting to elude, along with additional charges.

The sheriff’s office said the crash investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.
