Dog Rio Rescued From Florida Canal And Reunited With Owner
A “handsome guy” named Rio is back with his owners after firefighters in Florida rescued the pup from a canal and a storm drain over the weekend.
The Cape Coral Fire Department said a “concerned couple” called to report a dog struggling in a canal off Four Mile Cove Parkway shortly after 4 p.m. on Aug. 8. Engine 3 and Rescue 3 arrived to find the dog had entered a storm drain and was heading farther in.
One firefighter stayed in the canal and another firefighter stood guard at the other end of the storm drain “to make sure they could get him no matter which way he went.” Meanwhile, firefighters in the middle popped a cover off the storm drain and used a dog catch pole to bring him to the surface.
The dog was found to be “wet but in good condition,” and his collar showed his name is Rio. Firefighters called the number on Rio’s collar, but it went to voicemail.
In the meantime, Rio joined firefighters at Station 3 on Everest Parkway until his owners could be contacted. In a “pawsitive pupdate” later on Saturday, the fire department said Rio had been reunited with his family.
