Deputies Rescue Trapped Fawn That Rubbed Its Skin Raw Struggling Against Metal Fence
A distressing video shows Nebraska sheriff’s deputies freeing a fawn that was trapped in a fence, and had struggled so hard patches of skin were rubbed raw.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office posted the video on Facebook on Thursday, warning “squeamish” viewers they should “consider scrolling by.”
Deputies responded Thursday morning to the Elk City Cemetery after a fawn was reported to be trapped between two bars in a metal fence. The video shows the exhausted fawn with triangular patches of red, raw skin in front of its hips, where the fur had been rubbed away in its struggle.
After bending the metal bars apart to free the animal, deputies tried to corral it so it could be evaluated by an animal control officer. The fawn had other plans, however, and ran into a nearby field.
The sheriff’s office said concerned viewers shouldn’t bee too concerned for the fawn’s welfare, as “deer are noted to be incredible resilient.”
“It is expected to re-grow its hair and make a full recovery,” the sheriff’s office said.
