Celebratory Gunfire Came Within Inches Of Striking Sleeping Woman In Florida
Three people are facing charges after celebratory gunfire on New Year’s Eve came within inches of striking a sleeping neighbor in Florida, authorities said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said a family of four was in bed asleep at their home in Daytona Park Estates in DeLand at around midnight on New Year’s Eve when they woke to the sound of multiple gunshots and “pieces of drywall scattered across the bedroom.”
A photo shared by the sheriff’s office shows a bullet hole right next to a bed where a woman was sleeping. A bullet was found under the pillow. The sheriff’s office said deputies found a total of five bullet holes in the exterior of the home.
Axel Gomez, 21, was arrested on a charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Amy Gomez and Ken Newbold, both 25, also allegedly fired guns during the celebration, and were each charged with recklessly discharging a firearm in a residential area.
