U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Kentucky recently seized a shipment of 375 counterfeit luxury watches that would have been worth more than $54 million if genuine.

CBP officers at the Port of Louisville on June 18 intercepted a shipment from Hong Kong, bound for a residence in New York. The parcel contained 375 watches bearing the Audemars Piguet trademark.

The agency’s trade experts at the CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise determined the watches were counterfeit, and the items were seized. Had the watches been genuine, they would have been worth more than $54 million.

“Intellectual property theft threatens America’s economic vitality and funds criminal activities and organized crime,” said Louisville Port Director Philip Onken. “Our officers protect private industry and consumers by removing these kinds of shipments from our commerce.”
