‘Belligerent’ Man Arrested At Girls’ Basketball Game Was Allegedly Armed And Intoxicated
A West Virginia man is facing charges for allegedly being armed, intoxicated and “belligerent” at a high school girls’ basketball game this week, authorities said.
The Summersville Police Department said a school resource officer at a girls’ basketball game at Nicholas County High School on Tuesday asked Ronald Stroupe Jr. “numerous times” to calm down after a “verbal altercation” with a parent at the game.
As Stroupe being escorted out of the gym when he allegedly became “belligerent and physical” with the officer. As he was being placed under arrest, a firearm allegedly fell out of his waistband onto the floor of the gym.
Stroupe then allegedly “grabbed the gun and refused to release it,” police said. With assistance from the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department, the officer was able to disarm Stroupe and take him into custody.
Stroupe was booked into Central Regional Jail on charges of possession of a deadly weapon in the premises of an educational facility, brandishing, obstructing an officer, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
