9 Rescued After Boat Capsizes In Colorado Reservoir
Nine people were rescued Sunday after their boat capsized at Colorado’s Chatfield State Park, officials said.
South Metro Fire Rescue said crews responded along with Colorado Parks and Wildlife Rangers at around 2 p.m. on June 28 to a report of a capsized boat at Chatfield State Park, which includes Chatfield Reservoir, south of Denver.
Good Samaritan boaters and park rangers rescued a total of nine people.
“All nine occupants were wearing life jackets, which played a critical role in ensuring everyone made it out safely,” the fire department said.
“Life jackets save lives,” the fire department said. “Whether you’re on a boat, paddleboard, kayak, or canoe, always wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Emergencies on the water can happen without warning, and wearing a life jacket can make the difference between a close call and a tragedy.”
The fire department said its dive team was working with park rangers to recover the capsized boat, “which is resting in approximately 18 feet of water with only about four inches of the vessel remaining above the surface.”
