2 Dogs, Mickey And Minnie, Seized After Being Found Chained Up In The Snow

Authorities in North Carolina say two dogs were seized over the weekend after a tipster reported seeing them chained up outside in the snow without adequate shelter.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control said a 311 caller on Jan. 31 reported seeing two dogs tethered outdoors during a snowstorm without shelter, food or water. Animal Control Officers Caffray and Salvati responded to the property and took photos of the dogs chained up in heavy snow.

Now named Mickey and Minnie, the dogs were safely removed, and remain in the care of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control. The agency said a seizure letter was issued and intent to forfeit ownership rights was documented.

“They have received medical attention, continue to be monitored, and are safe, warm, and active — benefiting from daily enrichment, comfort, and plenty of treats thanks to community support,” the agency said.

The agency also issued a call for donations, noting that “enrichment items like toys, treats, and comfort supplies play a critical role in helping animals recover, stay mentally stimulated, and prepare for adoption.”

“Thank you to our officers for their swift response, and to our community for continuing to look out for animals in need,” the agency said.
