More details have emerged surrounding University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling who was arrested in August after the body of an infant was discovered wrapped in a garbage bag inside a closet at her home.
Photos of Snelling, 21, taken while she was in labor were found on her phone, along with an internet search history that included “concealed or hidden pregnancy,” according to a search warrant obtained by WKYT-TV on Monday, September 29. Lexington police also said that some of the pictures of Snelling in labor had been deleted which led them to believe “other items could have also been deleted in an attempt to hide any evidence of the pregnancy, birth and newborn baby.”

The affidavit also revealed that Snelling told officers that she gave birth, but she did not believe the baby was alive at the time. She said that after giving birth, she passed out and fell on the child and when she came to, the baby had turned blue and purple. Believing the baby was dead, Snelling said she then wrapped the infant up and lay next to him on the floor. The documents also stated that the college student admitted to cleaning up the area where she had given birth and then placed the child’s body in the closet.
At a September 2 court hearing, Snelling pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $100,000 bond, placed on house arrest with her parents in Tennessee.
When Snelling appeared in court on September 26, she waived her right to a preliminary hearing and instead opted to have her case go directly to a grand jury.
