University of Kentucky student Laken Snelling has been arrested after her lifeless infant was discovered inside a closet, according to a report from the Fayette County Police Department.
Police were called to the scene around 10:30 a.m. on August 27 and pronounced the child dead at the scene. Snelling, 21, was later arrested on August 31 and charged with concealing the birth of a child, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. The report stated that the infant was found “wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag” and said that the Fayette County Coroner’s Office will eventually release the cause of death.
Snelling, who has been confirmed to have been a member of UK’s cheer stunt team by the university, was released on $100,000 bond and is now on “home incarceration with no ankle monitor,” according to a court document obtained by local NBC affiliate LEX 18. The document also stated that Snelling was “to live with her parents.”
After being Mirandized, Snelling “admitted to giving birth” to the infant during an interview with local officers, according to an arrest citation viewed by LEX 18. The citation further noted that she “admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”
