TMZ Receives Alleged Ransom Note Demanding Bitcoin in Return for Savannah Guthrie’s Mother

There’s been a new development in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, Savannah Guthrie’s mother.

TMZ reported on Tuesday, February 3, that they received an alleged ransom note that demanded a large payment of Bitcoin in return for Nancy’s release. The outlet didn’t specify the exact amount, but stated that it was “in the millions” and that the note stated that the Bitcoin be sent to a specific Bitcoin address.

TMZ reported that the Bitcoin address was legitimate and that there was a deadline connected to the ransom and the note had a dangerous element to it. Harvey Levin spoke about the note received during the publication’s live stream earlier today.

“So we got something in our email that looks like… It’s written like a ransom note,” Levin, 75, said. “At the bottom, there are certain things they’re saying about what she was wearing and damage to the house.”

TMZ’s Charles Latibeaudiere chimed in and said the details were to “verify that we know what we’re talking about.”

“We’ve contacted the sheriff’s department and we want to get them this letter,” Levin continued. “We had a little trouble getting through to the right person, but the person we spoke with is now forwarding this to somebody in the detective bureau.”

Nancy, 84, was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after she was last seen at her home the night prior. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos described her house as a “crime scene” that gave him “serious concern.” He believes that Nancy had been abducted from her house at some point between 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31 and 11:00 a.m. the following morning.

Savannah, 54, released a statement on Monday, February 2, which was read on air during Today.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the statement read. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
