Rob Reiner’s Son Jake Opens Up About Brother Nick Being at ‘Center’ of Parents’ Murders
Rob Reiner’s son Jake Reiner is opening up about the devastating loss of his parents, saying he “lost more than half” his family “in the most violent way imaginable” as his brother Nick Reiner remains at the center of the case.
Jake, 34, shared a personal essay via Substack on Friday, April 24, more than four months after his parents, Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found murdered in their home on December 14, 2025..
Nick, 32, was arrested the same day and charged with two counts of first degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders. He pleaded not guilty on February 23 and remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 29.
“We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable,” Jake wrote. “Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it.”
“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” he continued. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream.”
The former television reporter also reflected on what his parents may have experienced in their final moments.
“They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected, and above all they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world,” he wrote, referring to his sister, Romy Reiner, and his brother.
In the essay, Jake included photos from his childhood and spoke warmly about both of his parents, calling Michele “his confidant” and Rob “his hero.”
He added that he understands why people struggle to find the right words when speaking to him.
“I just ask for love and compassion, the same principles my parents lived by,” Jake concluded.
