President Trump Plans to Seek Death Penalty on Nancy Guthrie Abductor If She’s Not Returned Alive

President Donald Trump wants Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, returned home safely.

In an interview with the New York Post on Monday, February 16, the 79-year-old president said the person (or people) responsible for abducting the Today anchor’s mother will face the “very, very severe — the most severe” federal penalties if she does not come back alive.

When Trump was asked if that meant the Department of Justice would request the death penalty, he told the publication, “The most, yeah — that’s true.”

Trump previously called Savannah, 54, to offer assistance after her mother was reported missing on February 1 by family members after she failed to show up to church.

As the search for Nancy has now entered the third week, authorities do not appear to have a person of interest, and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told the Daily Mail, “The motivation for it is where we get stuck, right?”

“Is it for money? I mean, we had the one demand where they asked for money,” he pointed out. “But is it really for money, or is it for revenge for something?”

On Sunday night, Savannah shared an emotional video message with her 1.9 million Instagram followers, saying that she remains optimistic amid the Guthrie family tragedy.

“It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope, and we still believe,” she said. “And I wanted to say to whoever has her, or knows where she is, that it’s never too late.”

According to the FBI, Nancy “is considered to be a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition.” She is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes.

Law enforcement officials released video footage that shows an “armed individual” appearing to tamper with the camera at Nancy’s front door the morning of her disappearance, but they still don’t have a suspect.

They have upped their reward to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy “and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
