During the Wednesday, September 2 episode of her show, The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly, 55, blasted Robinson’s lawyer, Richard Novak, after he suggested during a court hearing this week that Charlie Kirk had said things some found “hateful.”
Kelly also took issue with the defense’s earlier argument that Kirk, 31, was the only person endangered in the shooting because he was the only one struck by gunfire. Kirk, the conservative activist and cofounder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, while speaking before a crowd of more than 3,000 people at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

During the episode, Kelly noted Novak is a lifelong California resident who earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from UC Berkeley, graduated UCLA Law School in 1990, and later received a Skadden Fellowship for homeless youth legal services in Los Angeles. “So he sounds like a bleeding heart, and he also sounds like an idiot, like an idiot, because this is his take on a man about whom I guarantee you he knows NOTHING, even though he’s representing Tyler Robinson, and that is our friend Charlie Kirk,” Kelly said on the podcast.
She also pushed back on Novak’s claim that “some hate cannot be negotiated out,” saying he never specified what about Kirk he found objectionable. “Is this what we’re going to hear at the trial? You’re going to demonize the decedent?” Kelly asked.

She went on to accuse Novak of grandstanding: “What are you doing? Just trying to poison the judge on the victim? Or is that for the cameras and the leftist media out there?…Well, you’re WRONG. … You don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. Novak. Do your homework.”
Robinson’s case is now headed to trial. Utah District Judge Tony Graf ruled on Tuesday, September 1 that prosecutors presented “overwhelming” evidence Robinson shot Kirk once in the neck from a rooftop more than 400 feet away last September, according to the Associated Press.
Robinson’s attorneys entered a not guilty plea after the ruling. He faces aggravated murder charges, with prosecutors alleging the shot endangered others near Kirk — a factor that opens the door to the death penalty, per the outlet.
