Tyler Robinson, who has been accused of murdering Charlie Kirk, will reportedly appear in court to ask the judge to disallow cameras in the courtroom during his trial.

Robinson, 23, appeared in court on Friday, April 17, and TMZ reported that his attorneys are expected to argue that media bias and commodification of the high-profile case has made it so that cameras live-streaming the trial are negatively impacting his defense.

The outlet reported on April 17 that Robinson’s attorneys specifically cited an article that claimed the alleged shooter had pleaded guilty based on a lip-reading analysis from the live stream.

“The predominant purpose being served by the live stream coverage has not been the educational reporting of the court proceedings, but rather advertising profit, sensationalism, political agendas, and, most prominently, the vilification of Mr. Robinson,” his attorneys wrote in their request to bar cameras, per ABC News.

According to the report, media organizations as well as Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, have specifically called to allow cameras to cover the trial, where prosecutors are expected to seek the death penalty. However, Robinson has not yet entered a plea.

Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Charlie, 31, while he was appearing at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah on September 10, 2025.

ABC News reports that prosecutors have said they have DNA linking Robinson to the rifle, the fired cartridge casing, two unfired cartridges and a towel that wrapped around the rifle. The defense has claimed that the forensic report showed evidence of several people’s DNA.
