‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Ratings Tank Just Days After the Late-Night Show Returns to ABC

Jimmy Kimmel may have experienced an explosion in views when his late-night show returned to the air after his suspension, but that number tanked just two days later.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned after a five day suspension on September 23 with more than 6 million viewers tuning in, but on September 25, that number only hit 2.3 million – a whopping 64 percent drop, according to a report from Fox News published on Monday, September 29.

Plus, to make matters worse, the show saw a 73 percent drop in the most sought-after demographic of adults aged 25-54. The outlet reported that Kimmel, 57, pulled in 1.7 million viewers in that demographic on the night of his return, but only 465,000 returned 48 hours later.

According to New York Post, the show drew in 1.95 million viewers in January of this year.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended earlier this month after the late night host criticized President Donald Trump and his supporters’ response to the death of Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed on September 10 at the age of 31 during the first stop of his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during the monologue of his September 15 episode.

ABC announced the show had been “suspended indefinitely,” but five days later, they retracted the suspension.
