A Florida father is facing charges after allegedly being captured on surveillance video popping a wheelie on an ATV with his young child on board during a street takeover, authorities said.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said 29-year-old Jordianis Garcia of Lehigh Acres was arrested Monday in connection with the incident, which took place earlier this year.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded in late April to a gas station off Palm Beach Boulevard to review surveillance video related to a previous street takeover incident. The video, shared by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday, shows several ATV riders “recklessly driving” and doing wheelies in the parking lot.
In one part of the footage, an adult and small child can be seen riding a white ATV. The adult then pops a wheelie and speeds out of frame, with the child riding on board.
Investigators identified the suspect as Garcia, and determined the child seen in the video was his 8-year-old son.
Garcia was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm and cited for racing on a highway – coordinating a street takeover.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for this kind of behavior, especially when a minor child is involved,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “His father put a lot of people in danger, including his own son, for a few moments of reckless entertainment. We will continue identifying and arresting those who participate in these dangerous street takeovers.”
