JD Vance, 41, walked into the lion’s den on Tuesday, June 16 when he sat down with the cohosts of The View to promote his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, and field questions about President Donald Trump‘s immigration crackdown and the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

But by the time the segment wrapped, social media wasn’t talking about the vice president’s policy answers — they were talking about his face.

JD appeared to wear eyeliner on the show, some fans believed — a longtime point of speculation his wife, Usha Vance, has addressed before, insisting the look is simply his natural eyelashes.

“They’re all natural,” she previously said, per Puck News. “I’ve always been jealous of those lashes.” On Tuesday, viewers also noted what looked like a heavy amount of orange bronzer on the vice president.

Viewers took to X with jokes about JD’s apparent makeup, with one user asking if he borrowed Trump’s makeup bag. Another joked that whoever applied his makeup deserved “a medal” for “turning the vice president into a sweet potato,” while a third quipped that JD “looks like a motivational speaker for clinically flaccid energy.”

According to a Tuesday, June 16, report by The Independent, The View‘s moderator Whoopi Goldberg welcomed JD by noting the show had been trying to book him for some time, saying the program had spent “29 seasons” inviting “thousands of guests with all kinds of diverse points of view.”

Per the report, the conversation grew heated when JD was pressed on Trump’s comment that he “loves the inflation.” JD insisted the president meant inflation would ease once “the war is over.”

Goldberg pushed back immediately, and Joy Behar followed up by asking JD, “Are you his interpreter, or are you his vice president?”

JD also acknowledged during the appearance that he’s a “conspiracy-theorist” about the Epstein files, according to the outlet.

Despite the sparring, the segment ended warmly: cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin presented JD with a baby onesie featuring the show’s logo, a nod to the fact that he and Usha are expecting their fourth child. They are also parents to sons Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, 4.
