Deputies Rescue Man From House Fire In Florida

Sheriff’s deputies in Florida this week rescued a homeowner from a house fire after a passing motorist reported seeing smoke, officials said on Facebook.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said a passing motorist called 911 on July 29 to report seeing smoke coming from a home on Westmoreland Drive in Palm Coast. Deputies were first to arrive on scene and found thick, black smoke billowing from the front door.

“I hear people yelling,” a deputy says in body-worn camera video shared by the sheriff’s office. After searching around the property, deputies found the homeowner on the back patio, “unable to move and just feet from flames.”

One deputy grabbed a fire extinguisher to help keep the flames at bay while other deputies helped the man to his feet and got him safely away from the scene.

The Palm Coast Fire Department and Flagler County Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

“It’s not every day we are firemen too,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Situations like this are why every deputy’s patrol vehicle is equipped with a fire extinguisher and deputies are trained for any emergency. I commend our deputies for hearing the screams and rescuing the homeowner.”
