Former Senator Lindsey Graham opened up about his long, single life in a memoir published before his death, explaining why he never married.
“I’ve never married. I guess I attribute that to timing, too,” Graham wrote in his 2015 memoir, My Story: Lindsey Graham, per The U.S. Sun. “The opportunity never presented itself at the right time, or I never found time to meet the right girl, or the right girl was smart enough not to have time for me.”
The late South Carolina senator died on July 11 of aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to the medical examiner.
In his memoir, Graham reportedly detailed his past relationships, including a law school girlfriend named Debbie. He also dated a Lufthansa flight attendant, whom he considered proposing to after their relationship turned “serious quickly.”
“I haven’t been lucky that way,” he said of his love life. “But I have a family.”
Graham’s sister Darline Graham Nordone — whom he helped raise after their parents died — was appointed to his seat by South Caroline Governor Henry McMaster just two days after her brother’s death.
