Burned-Out Mom Calls 911 On Herself: ‘Hardest Thing To Do When You’re Struggling Is Ask For Help.’

A Utah mom of four who went viral for calling cops on herself is speaking out about her heartbreaking ordeal.

“I just needed relief,” Kylie Grimes told Today.com in an interview published on Monday, November 17, of why she called 911 and answered “myself” when asked what her emergency was. (She first shared her story on TikTok in August.)

“I needed the phones to stop beeping. I needed the kids to stop fighting. I needed the fear of trying to keep this baby alive to just subside for just a minute,” said Kylie, who became the medical caregiver for her two youngest kids, after they were diagnosed with diabetes.

That day, Kylie “hadn’t slept in months,” and had also called poison control because her diabetic infant son, Noble, had also choked on dirt from a houseplant, she wrote in her TikTok caption.

“I was missing the mark on every level. Pouring from an empty cup. I knew in that moment I wasn’t safe for anyone,” she added.

Her husband Kyle, who had been at work 30 minutes away, arrived after the paramedics, and “suddenly, I was surrounded by people kneeling down, letting me plead my case, letting me vent, cry, and lose my sanity for a moment,” she wrote in the caption, which was under an image taken of the scene from her home security camera.

Though not much changed about their overwhelming responsibilities after the 911 call, Kylie told Today, “my husband and I realized that we have to start asking for help.”

“The easiest thing to do when you find out someone’s struggling is go help them,” added Kyle. “And the hardest thing to do when you’re struggling is ask for help.”

“The best thing that has happened to me in this situation is that I haven’t felt alone,” Kylie continued. “I’m OK and that we’re figuring this out.”
