Bill Murray’s Son Luke Scores Job as Head Coach at Boston College

Ghostbusters star Bill Murray’s son Luke, a top assistant coach in men’s college basketball, has slam-dunked his way to a top job! Luke, 40, hit a buzzer-beater — landing a gig as the new head coach at Boston College after five seasons with perennial powerhouse University of Connecticut.

His famous father, 75, regularly sat behind the UConn Huskies bench during games — and TV cameras often caught the former SNL cut-up leaping out of his seat with excitement when the team scored.

Hoop aficionados regularly praised Luke for his talent running the Huskies offense. He played a key role in helping Huskies coach Dan Hurley devise some of college basketball’s most sophisticated schemes, which were instrumental in UConn winning back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024.

Luke was also the lead recruiter for a number of UConn’s key players.

Prior to his stint with UConn, Luke, who is one of Bill’s six sons, worked with Hurley at the University of Rhode Island and Wagner College. He was also an assistant at the University of Louisville and Xavier University.

He’ll take over a Boston College Eagles program that’s been struggling. In the past 15 seasons, they’ve gone 184-290 overall while regularly playing in front of paltry home crowds. During that 15-year stretch, they’ve had a winning record only twice.

Despite that, Hurley is optimistic Luke has the talent to turn the Eagles around, saying, per CBS Sports: “I hire talented people. I want those guys to get jobs, and I want those guys to get jobs where they have a chance to win.”
