A pair of Missouri teachers are being hailed as heroes after they recently save a student began choking in class, school district officials said.
The Parkway School District, which serves west St. Louis County, said that when a Parkway South High School student recently began choking in class, “two teachers acted swiftly and without hesitation.”
Josh Schneider, a Special School District of St. Louis County (SSD) instructor, and Adam Weiss, a social studies and Patriot Global Academy teacher, jumped into action when they saw that the student was choking. They activated the classroom’s emergency button to alert the school nurse and administrators, then immediately worked together to perform abdominal thrusts, formerly known as the Heimlich maneuver.
“Within seconds,” their efforts paid off and the student began breathing again, officials said.
“Their calm and decisive teamwork turned a frightening moment into a safe outcome,” officials said. “Thank you to Josh and Adam for the care, compassion, and composure exhibited in this heroic response!”
