Woman Arrested for Scamming Men Into Marriage, Gambling Away Money She Said Was for Sick Relatives

A woman has been arrested in Las Vegas for a second time for allegedly tricking men into marrying her before taking their money to use on gambling.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Jiaying Chen, 33, was arrested last month in Las Vegas and is expected to plead guilty to one count each of bigamy and obtaining money under false pretenses of more than $100,000.

Police say Chen was able to get married multiple times using an alias, fraudulent identifications and simply lying on various applications. In total, she applied for 14 marriage licenses between 2019 and 2024 and seven of the certificates were issued. The outlet reports that she would meet men on social media and dating apps before quickly convincing them to marry her. From there, she would request money that she claimed would go to sick relatives in China.

However, police discovered that she has lost more than $300,000 at the Wynn casino in the last year alone and they believe the cash was going to her gambling habit. She allegedly received $40,000 from one man, $23,000 from another and $20,000 from a third. One man says he and his family saved up $30,000 to help her buy a house.

After receiving the money, Chen would allegedly break up with the men, get an annulment or simply stop all communication with them.

FOX5 in Las Vegas reports that she is currently married to six different men, with a majority of them happening in the last three months. Despite her alleged crimes, some of the men say they’ll remain married to her.

Chen was arrested in 2024 and released on bond. She then disappeared until police got a tip that she’d be meeting with a man in a restaurant to discuss getting married. They apprehended her on June 4, and she identified herself as Jiaying Chen. However, she allegedly had false identification on her with an alias. When police ran the alias, they found she had continued her alleged marriage scam while avoiding authorities after her 2024 arrest.
