Newly released videos show Mitch McConnell appearing confused while casting votes on the Senate voting floor just days before the longtime senator was hospitalized following a fall.

Videos shared by TMZ on Thursday, August 20, show McConnell needing assistance during a vote-arama on June 4.

In the first video, McConnell puts a thumbs up to vote “yea,” only for the Senate Clerk to alert McConnell’s chief of staff that he voted incorrectly. Moments later, McConnell then changes his vote to “nay,” per the outlet.

Another video shows Senator Bernie Moreno appearing to assist McConnell in casting a “nay” vote. After Moreno puts his thumb down, McConnell follows suit.

A third video shows the Senate Clerk signaling to the Kentucky senator on how to cast a vote, per the outlet. And a final video shows McConnell sitting for six hours straight, per TMZ.

McConnell has been largely out of the public eye since June. On Thursday, August 6, the senator confirmed he had been staying at a rehabilitation center following his hospitalization.

“Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home,” McConnell, 84, shared in a written statement at the time. “Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff.”

The statement continued, “On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.”

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after suffering a fall at his home in Washington D.C., just 10 days after the footage featured by TMZ was recorded.
