Mitch McConnell Claims to Have Been Discharged From Rehab Center After More Than 50 Days
Mitch McConnell is reportedly on the mend as the Kentucky Senator claims to have been released from a rehabilitation center after 53 days.
“Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home,” McConnell, 84, shared in a written statement on Thursday, August 6. “Elaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff.”
The statement continued, “On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.”
McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after suffering a devastating fall at his D.C. home. Despite having released two photos, seemingly from his hospital bed, the conservative politician has yet to be seen publicly since he was found unconscious.
Americans on both sides of the spectrum — including the Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear — have been calling for more transparency in regards to the senator’s health as the August 3 deadline to call a special election has come and gone.
“I know there are a lot of folks wondering about the significance of August 3 regarding a potential Senate vacancy,” Beshear shared via X on Monday morning. “I want everyone to know that this date has no legal impact on my options should there be a vacancy this year.”
It remains unclear when or if McConnell will return to work as his term is set to end in January 2027.
