Authorities in Colorado are seeking the public’s help after a vandal caused flooding and more than $10,000 in damages at a local park.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to Civic Center Park in Bennett on the morning of Sept. 8 after a backflow preventer valve was damaged and stolen overnight, resulting in substantial water damage.

The valves was located near a splash pad, and the protective cage around it had been damaged and removed. Investigators believe the valve was stolen at around 3:30 a.m., and water flowed for around four hours until it was discovered around 7:30 a.m.

The flow of water damaged the park’s landscaping, playground and baseball diamond. Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show areas of standing water and significant mud on the playground and baseball diamond.
