Per CBS in a Wednesday, December 10 announcement, the CBS Mornings cohost, 44, has been tapped as the new anchor of CBS Evening News, taking over after Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson announced their departures earlier this year.
Dokoupil will deliver his first broadcast on January 5, 2026, marking one of the first major shifts under new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, podcaster and founder of The Free Press.

“After 20 years in journalism, traveling through all 50 states and talking with people in hundreds of far-flung American places, I realize why a country this big needs a show this ambitious,” said Dokoupil in a statement.
Dokoupil joined CBS in 2016 and has since interviewed a spectrum of high-profile figures, including Vice President JD Vance, Bill Gates, and even pop culture icons likeJennifer Lopez and Harry Styles.
