Teen Dies on Boston Subway Tracks While Trying to Save His Girlfriend: ‘Noble Young Man’

A teenager died after falling onto the subway tracks in Boston while trying to help his girlfriend, who had also fallen from the platform.

According to MBTA Transit, police said, via Boston25, that 19-year-old Frankey Wright Jr. entered the Forest Hills Station on Saturday, August 29, with his girlfriend, who has not been named. They were carrying flags representing the Caribbean while on their way to the city’s Caribbean Festival.

Police say the woman was unsteady on her feet and lost her balance near the edge of the platform and fell onto the tracks. Wright quickly leapt into action to help her. Once she got to her feet, however, she fell backwards into the empty right railway. Wright again attempted to help her, but in doing so he landed on the electrified third rail, which killed him.

Wright’s father told the outlet that it was his son’s first time riding the train and going to the festival. He described his son as a “noble young man” and said he wants people to remember him for dying while trying to save a life.

“This appears to be a horrific tragedy and on behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization, we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said.

Police noted that they do not suspect any foul play in the incident.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and remains in critical condition. It’s unclear if she too had contact with the electrified third rail.
