Authorities in California say they recovered more than $45,000 worth of designer sunglasses and arrested two suspects “within minutes” of a retail theft earlier this month.
The San Ramon Police Department said a suspect entered a retail store at City Center on June 11 and filled a garbage bag with high-end sunglasses before fleeing.
A corporal from the police department’s Organized Retail Theft Suppression Team happened to be patrolling the area at the time and quickly located the suspect, who fled on foot before entering a waiting vehicle.
Patrol officers soon stopped the vehicle and took both suspects into custody. All of the stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the business.
“This case is a great example of the impact proactive patrols and teamwork can have on crime in our community,” police said. “Because officers were already in the area and responded quickly, a significant theft was solved within minutes, stolen property was recovered, and those responsible were taken into custody.”
