U.S. Customs and Border Protection
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in New York recently discovered $4 million worth of marijuana disguised as a commercial shipment of chocolate.
CBP officers at the Port of Buffalo’s Peace Bridge border crossing on June 9 encountered a commercial truck carrying a shipment manifested as “chocolate.” A non-intrusive scan revealed “irregularities,’ prompting a physical search of the truck and trailer.
Officers found vacuum-sealed packages within cardboard boxes. In total, 56 boxes contained more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana. CBP said the haul has an estimated street value of around $4 million.
“This significant seizure demonstrates the dedication and vigilance of our officers at the Port of Buffalo,” said Area Port of Buffalo’s Acting Port Director Sharon Swiatek. “By leveraging advanced technology and thorough inspection protocols, our team prevented over 1,600 pounds of illicit drugs from entering the United States. We remain committed to protecting our communities and upholding the integrity of our borders.”
