Semi Hauling Corn On The Cob Overturns On I-5 In Washington, Driver Cited For ‘Drowsy Driving’
Traffic was snarled on Interstate 5 in Washington early Thursday after a semi truck overturned and spilled a load of corn across the highway, officials said.
The Washington State Department of Transportation shared a photo of the spill on social media and advised motorists the southbound I-5 exit ramp to Thorne Lane near Lakewood was temporarily closed for cleanup.
“Shucks,” the agency wrote alongside the photo. “There are a lot of corny jokes we could make about this, but if someone has a good one, we’re all ears.”
Trooper Kameron Watts, a public information officer for the Washington State Patrol, shared a photo of troopers standing amid a pile of corn on the cob.
Watts said traffic to Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) from I-5 would be diverted to Exits 120 and 119 until the scene could be cleared.
No injuries were reported. Watts said the collision was determined to be caused by “drowsy driving,” and the driver is being cited for negligent driving in the second degree.
