Scam Website Impersonating San Francisco Police Department To Harvest Victim Data
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) is warning residents that fraudsters are impersonating the department with a scam website.
According to police, the fake website is being used to trick victims into filing reports there in order to harvest their data.
“We are aware of a fraudulent website impersonating the SFPD and attempting to collect personal info from people trying to file an online police report,” police said on social media.
“This is a scam. We DO NOT accept reports through Zoom,” police said. “SFPD urges everyone to be suspicious of strangers asking for personal information, such as your Social Security number.”
SFPD is reminding residents that its official website is at sanfranciscopolice.org. Residents can report a scam or file a police report online at sanfranciscopolice.org/get-service/police-reports.
