President Donald Trump has high hopes that his tenure in the White House will never come to an end.

The president, who will turn 80 on June 14 — and has been plagued by rumors of declining health — said during the commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, May 20, that he will be in office for the foreseeable future.

While discussing the United States’ agreement with Finland to purchase new icebreakers — ships designed to break through and navigate ice-covered waters, per the DHS — Trump said he was told the first one would arrive in 2028.

“I said, ‘I’m going to be here in ’28. Maybe I’ll be here in ’32, too. I don’t know,'” Trump told those in attendance. “Maybe I will, but I’m going to be here in ’28.”

Though the Apprentice alum is currently serving his second term in the White House, he has continuously alluded to pursuing an unconstitutional third term as president.

According to the 22nd amendment of the U.S. Constitution, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

Still, Trump has been adamant that it could be possible.

In a 2025 interview with NBC News, Trump said, “I’m not joking. But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

When asked more about how that would work, the former reality star said, “There are methods which you could do it.”

On TrumpStore.com, red hats that say “Trump 2028” are currently being sold. “The future looks bright!” it says in the description. “Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat.”

If Trump were to be elected for a third term — which is not possible under the U.S. Constitution — he would be 82 at the time of the inauguration. If he were to be reelected again in 2032, he would be 86.

Trump has raised concerns about his health on numerous occasions, and he has been pictured with bruises on his hands multiple times. However, at a reported weight of 224 pounds, Trump has claimed he had been declared healthier than Barack Obama.
