Authorities in Washington are seeking the public’s help identifying the jewelry found with the remains of an unidentified woman pulled from a river in an advanced state of decomposition.

The Kelso Police Department said officers responded to the banks of the Cowlitz River on an undeveloped property near the Mill Street railroad crossing on May 26 for a report of a possible body in the water. With assistance from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, the body of an unknown woman was recovered.

Investigators believe the woman’s body was in the river for two to four weeks before it was discovered, and as a result, no physical description such as eye color or hair color are available. Based on the autopsy, the woman’s age was estimated to be between 40 ad 50. Fingerprints were collected, but have not led to an identification.

Police said the woman had no tattoos or other markings, but did have a “unique looking” ring and two necklaces. Investigators shared images of the jewelry on Wednesday, in the hope that someone may recognize it.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Kelso Police Detective Unit at (360) 423-1270.
