Two women have been arrested after the car one of them was driving allegedly struck a mother pushing her infant and 5-year-old in a stroller, resulting in the baby’s death.

According to a press release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey, officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to the parking lot of a grocery store, where they found a Ford Fusion had struck the unnamed mother and the stroller she had that was caring her 9-month-old son and 5-year-old daughter.

The mother and daughter remain in the hospital recovering from their injuries. However, the infant was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital. The driver of the vehicle, Maria CobonGuzman, was arrested at the scene, “charged with Manslaughter, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Ever Having Possessed or Been Issued a Valid Driver’s License While Involved in a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash, and two counts of Assault by Auto,” according to the press release. It was determined that she was driving the vehicle despite having never had a license in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, her passenger, Ariadna Lazaro-Flores, was charged with knowingly engaging in conduct creating a substantial risk of death to another. Police say that, through their investigation, they learned Lazaro-Flores, 22, was aware that CobonGuzman, 20, did not have a license but still allowed her to drive.

Both women are currently being held at the Ocean County Jail. It’s unclear at this time when they’re due in court.
