Megyn Kelly Says It Would Be ‘Inappropriate’ to Not Cover Nancy Guthrie’s Son-in-Law Amid Disappearance

Megyn Kelly believes that no one, including Savannah Guthrie’s siblings and their spouses, should be ruled out as possible suspects in the ongoing Nancy Guthrie investigation.

After Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement earlier this week that members of the immediate Guthrie family (including spouses) have been “cleared as possible suspects” and said that suggesting otherwise is “cruel,” the 55-year-old journalist weighed in.

During a recent appearance on Sky News Australia with host Paul Murray, Kelly implied that Sheriff Nanos’ statements regarding the Guthrie family keep shifting. However, he made it clear on Monday that they were cleared and he said Tuesday, per People, that they’re “victims.”

She then pointed out that authorities were previously inside the home of Annie Guthrie, whose husband Tommaso Cioni has been at the center of swirling reports linking him to the case.

While Kelly acknowledged that these factors don’t “mean that this guy did it,” she said that the sheriff may have ulterior motives behind telling the media to be kind to the Guthrie family.

“Now, the sheriff has a couple motivations,” she said. “Let’s say he actually does think the brother-in-law is a suspect. He wants him to continue cooperating with him. He does not want him to lawyer up. He does not want to have the man see him as an adversary. That’s all very smart investigative police work.”

Still, the journalist said, “That’s not my line of work. My line of work is to figure out what’s going on and to report it to my audience. If law enforcement ever contacted me and said, ‘I’m going to give you a tip, but I need you to keep this confidential for the integrity of the investigation,’ I would honor that. But that’s not what this sheriff is doing. He’s saying, ‘Don’t be so mean.’ Sorry, we’re the media, sir.”

Kelly said her job is to report the news and that she is “not in the ‘I want to be liked’ business.”

“We don’t know what the truth is at this point, but you don’t — as the reporter covering this or, frankly, as the police — rule anybody out until you see handcuffs on somebody,” Kelly continued. “And even then, you might have a few questions left.”

“It would be completely inappropriate for me to spend no time on the brother-in-law,” she said. “He was the last person to see Nancy Guthrie — I mean, you know, that we know of.”

According to the FBI, Nancy, 84, “is considered to be a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition.” She is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes.

They have upped their reward to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy “and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”

She was reported missing on February 1 by family members after she failed to show up to church. There are still no suspects in the case.

People with any information regarding the case are asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). You may also contact your local FBI office, the nearest American Embassy or Consulate, or you can submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
