Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Attacking His Girlfriend’s Father Over a Nightclub Cover Charge

A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting his girlfriend’s father over a dispute about paying the cover charge at a nightclub.

Franco Xavier Summers, 34, pleaded no contest to one count of murder for the 2024 shooting death of Christopher Paul Fuentes, 43, outside of a San Antonio bar. According to Law & Crime, the sentence comes as part of a plea deal that allowed for the dismissal of additional charges involving family violence by strangulation and evading arrest.

According to a report from KSAT at the time of the killing, Fuentes had recently been released from prison and was living with his daughter and her boyfriend, Summers. They were reportedly drinking at their apartment but decided to relocate to a bar. Fuentes and Summers reportedly got into a fight after the former didn’t want to pay a cover fee to enter a local nightclub.

The group returned to the car Summers drove them there in, and things escalated. Summers warned the other two that he had a gun, prompting them to eventually exit the vehicle and walk away.

In video footage viewed by investigators, Summers continued to follow them in the car, KSAT reported. Fuentes approached the driver’s side window and grabbed at Summers, who reached for his gun. Fuentes was shot several times, and his daughter fled inside the restaurant for safety as Summers drove off at a high rate of speed. She later identified Summers as the shooter, and police picked him up at an apartment while responding to a separate call days later.

Law & Crime notes that Summers will have to serve at least half of his 25-year sentence before being eligible for parole.
