Maine Motorist’s Medical Episode Nearly Leads Him To Crash Into River
A Maine motorist narrowly escaped tumbling 15 feet down into a river on Saturday when he had to pull over due to a “medical problem,” fire officials said.
Kennebunk Fire-Rescue said Saturday that a motorist had an unspecified medical episode that required him to pull over, but due to a “misjudgment,” the vehicle came to rest in an unstable position “where it was ready to roll over and down a 15 drop.”
Photos shared by the fire department show the car tilted at a 45-degree angle over the edge of the road, threatening to slide down the embankment to the river.
The vehicle was “actively moving and sliding” when crews arrived, and a heavy wrecker was called to the scene. Crews used a tree as an anchor point, along with chains and a winch, to stabilize the vehicle. The operator of the heavy wrecker was then able to remove the vehicle without causing any additional damage.
The driver was unharmed.
