Kathy Griffin and Jimmy Kimmel have been there for each other in some of their most difficult moments.

In an interview with People published on Thursday, October 30, the comedian, 64, revealed that she reached out to the Jimmy Kimmel Live host, 57, “day one” after his show was suspended last month.

Griffin told the outlet she could relate to feeling under attack.

“It’s been really triggering for me because Jimmy was the only one who would have me on his show during all those years I was canceled,” she noted, referring to her 2017 photoshoot where she held up a mask of a decapitated version of President Donald Trump’s head.

“I know what it’s like to have the bigwigs and head honchos say, ‘She’s too dangerous,'” the Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List alum admitted.

As the National Enquirer previously reported, Kimmel’s late-night show was put on pause in September because of comments he made about Charlie Kirk’s death. The far-right political pundit was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10.

“The MAGA Gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel remarked during the Monday, September 15 episode. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Griffin wasn’t the only celebrity who supported Kimmel amid the controversy as hundreds of A-listers signed an open ACLU letter backing him, including Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez and Robert De Niro, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kimmel’s show returned to the air less than a week after its suspension.
