Iowa Woman Pleads Guilty to Injecting Patient’s IV With Harmful Chemicals
An Iowa woman is accused of putting poisonous chemicals into the IV of a patient living at a care home where she worked.
Halie Spidle was arrested and charged with attempted murder and three counts of administering harmful substances back in September 2025 when she admitted to injecting “algaecide and/or brake cleaner” into the victim’s medication without their knowledge, per KCCI.
She has since pleaded guilty to the three lesser charges in order to have the attempted murder charge dropped, according to WHO13.
KCCI, which reviewed court documents related to the case, reports that Spidle was the administrator of New Venture Group Home, a care facility for adults with mental disabilities in Corydon. It’s unclear what her motive for injecting the chemicals into the unknown person’s IV was. The patient is alive, but it’s also unclear if they suffered any long-term injuries.
According to a 2020 Facebook post by her husband, Jimmy Spidle, she had worked at the facility for five years.
She is currently scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on September 22. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
