Goldfish Swim School Debuts ‘Golden Learners’ Program For Autism Acceptance Month

In recognition of National Autism Acceptance Month this April, Goldfish Swim School has officially launched its Golden Learners program — a new initiative designed to make water safety and swim instruction more accessible to children with cognitive, physical, or developmental needs.

Goldfish Swim School, which has more than 185 locations across North America, provides water safety education to children as young as four months through age 12. The Golden Learners program, developed over several years with input from pediatric experts, occupational therapists, and in-school training sessions, aims to help children build confidence and swimming skills at their own pace.

The program also addresses a critical safety concern: drowning remains the leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 1–4 and the second leading cause for children ages 5–14, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown, according to Autism Society Florida.

Program features include small class sizes or one-on-one instruction, sensory-friendly teaching tools, consistent routines to reduce anxiety, and gentle guidance through positive reinforcement. These strategies are aimed at fostering both in-water progress and behaviors beneficial in traditional classroom settings.

To support learning beyond the pool, families participating in the Golden Learners program will receive a sensory-focused Mini-Kit from Big Life Journal and a 7-day free trial to its GrowthMinded platform.
