Former CEO of Sheetz Convenience Store Chain Dead at 77
Stephen G. Sheetz, who was the former president, CEO and Chairman of the Board of the family-owned Sheetz convenience store chain, has died.
He died from respiratory complications at UPMC Altoona after being hospitalized with pneumonia, the company confirmed to The New York Times on Monday, January 5.
He was 77.
The Altoona, Pennsylvania, native began working part-time at the business at age 12, according to a statement shared by the company on social media on Tuesday, January 6.
“Steve’s impact on Sheetz is immense. He played an instrumental role in guiding members of the Sheetz family into business, helping them apply their skills and talents to support the company’s continued success,” the company said in their statement.
During his time as president, Sheetz introduced the popular Made-to-Order food program, entered the fuel business and expanded to new states, they added, and “remained actively involved in the business he helped build for more than 60 years.”
Sheetz is survived by his wife, Nancy, two daughters, Megan Sheetz and Nicole Sheetz Frith, and seven grandchildren.
