A Florida family is hoping to raise awareness after their baby experienced a febrile seizure last month and was rescued by a sheriff’s deputy.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Curtis Redford responded to a Lehigh Acres home on Oct. 28 for a report of a 1-year-old child who was not breathing.

Body-worn camera video shared by the sheriff’s office shows Redford performing infant CPR on the child, named Catalina, who begins breathing again before EMS personnel arrive on scene.

Catalina was transported to the hospital and was ultimately diagnosed with a febrile seizure, which occurs in children and is caused by fever. According to the Mayo Clinic, febrile seizures typically last a few minutes and are usually harmless.

“The family has expressed their gratitude for Deputy Redfords efforts & want to bring awareness to other first time parents of this sudden medical event,” the sheriff’s office said.
