A California police department says they seized nearly 1,300 pounds of illegal fireworks over Fourth of July weekend with the help of drones.
The Santa Ana Police Department said a staggering 1,296 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized across the city over the holiday weekend thanks to teamwork between drone operators, patrol officers, the gang unit, and the Directed Enforcement and Quality of Life teams.
Nearly 200 people received citations for possessing illegal fireworks in what police described as the largest fireworks seizure in Orange County.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad assisted in the safe disposal of the seized fireworks.
Police said the holiday weekend enforcement action also resulted in 107 citations for illegal drone operations.
