When a Washington motorist crashed into a liquor store Sunday morning, police officers “saw this as a clue” that they were allegedly driving under the influence.

The Sedro-Woolley Police Department said officers responded to a reported motor vehicle accident in the area of Crossroad Square at around 9:34 a.m. Sunday. They arrived to find a blue Honda SUV had crashed into a liquor store, causing “significant damage” to the business and the building.

Investigators determined the SUV had jumped a curb and driven onto a sidewalk before crashing into the liquor store. No one was injured in the incident, but damages to the building were estimated at more than $5,000.

“Officers saw this as a clue,” police said. The driver allegedly admitted drinking the night before but denied drinking that morning. According to officers, the driver’s eyes were “bloodshot and watery,” she was “unsteady on her feet” and smelled of intoxicants.

The driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody for suspected DUI. A breath test allegedly showed her blood-alcohol content was .105, well over the legal limit of .08.

According to police, the suspect was arrested for DUI in 2025 after striking a parked car, and her BAC in that case was .240.

The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, was charged with DUI and malicious mischief in the first degree.
