The manager of a Dollar General in West Virginia is accused of locking an underage girl inside before allegedly making advances toward her.

On September 12, the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office took Jeffrey Irvin Malcolm into custody and charged him with solicitation of a minor, according to court records viewed by the National Enquirer. He is currently being held in jail on a $40,000 bond.

The charges stem from an incident at the Dollar General in which an unnamed female minor said she was dropped off at the store and saw Malcolm wave for her to come inside, according to WDTV. The outlet reported that the girl claimed Malcolm nearly locked her out as she entered the store, then informed her that she was now locked inside.

He allegedly walked with her to the party supply section of the store before heading to the register, where he told a coworker not to ring the girl up because he wanted to handle her checkout. He said he would apply a manager’s discount and pay for her party supplies, leaving her to only pay for a pack of chewing gum.

According to the outlet, he then asked the girl, “What are you going to do for me now since I paid for your stuff?”

When she threatened to get the manager, he reportedly replied, “Good thing I am the manager,” while laughing.

During their interaction, other employees reportedly stepped outside to take out the trash. When Malcolm let them back in, the girl seized the opportunity to flee the store. Deputies said she was crying and visibly shaken up when they arrived on the scene.

When questioned, Malcolm admitted to buying the girl’s items and locking her in the store, which he said was “consistent with the procedure he had been trained to follow,” per the outlet. However, he denied asking her what she’d do for him in return.

He also admitted to drinking while at work, eventually being tested for a blood alcohol level of 0.136 percent.
