David Beckham‘s business ambitions will require him to spend a lot more time in the U.S., per a source, who predicts it could mean significant periods of time apart from wife Victoria.
Earlier this month, the retired soccer player, 51, brought back Beckham & Friends Live, an altcast of CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League coverage, for a second season with the help of special guests like Tom Hiddleston, Cole Hauser and Emily In Paris star Lucien Laviscount.
“David’s successful deal for football coverage and commentary on Paramount+ is creating a new reality for him and his family simply because he’s going to be traveling more and he’s going to be needed in New York and Los Angeles more just to interact and glad-hand the executives and owners who have signed off on his rich compensation,” says the National Enquirer‘s source, who notes the show also films in London.
“It’s just a fact of how these things go,” the source explains. “When paying for a bold-faced name like David, the expectation is for face time with the man and opportunities to give him in-person feedback.”

Still, “it’s a hard thing for Victoria to get her head around,” the source says of the fashion designer, 52. “She has been an autonomous head of her own business for so long. She and she alone decides when and where she travels and currently she just prefers to be in Europe.”
The Beckhams certainly don’t need the money, either. According to this year’s The Sunday Times Rich List, she and David have an estimated combined net worth of $1.6 billion.
“But the Beckham & Friends project scratches a certain itch that nothing else he’s done over the last twenty years or so has,” notes the source. “He loves that people are hanging on his every word and actually curious about his opinions. He wouldn’t have made this deal if he didn’t.”
It also “feeds into a particular part of his vanity where he wants to be seen as more than just an aging pretty boy or former sports star,” the source reveals, “which is why he’s not going to walk away from this opportunity anytime soon, no matter the turbulence it causes for his family.”
