Authorities in Colorado recently responded to a break-in and found a pair of suspected burglars were in fact bear cubs.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a reported break-in at a residence in Roxborough Park and arrived to find a pair of “non-traditional suspects: two curious sibling bear cubs.”

According to the sheriff’s office, the young bears let themselves in through an open window and made a real mess while exploring the house.

A video shared by the sheriff’s office on Thursday shows the bear cubs happily chowing down on a spilled bag of dry pet food, with cans of what appears to be wet pet food strewn around.

With assistance from Colorado Parks and Wildlife personnel, the bear cubs were safely chased out of the home without any injuries. The video shows the cubs scampering away into the darkness.

“Please stay bear aware! We’ve had several bear run-ins lately,” the sheriff’s office said. “Help prevent bear visits by securing trash, bringing in bird feeders, keeping pet food indoors, and locking lower‑level doors and windows. Let’s keep our community safe and our wildlife wild.”
